Stephen
and Vanessa Pomeroy & Family
Stephen
and Vanessa Pomeroy grew up in Seattle, Washington. They met at
the end of their Junior year of High School. Vanessa, and her family
played a big part in Stephen’s returning to the Lord, as they
re-introduced him to his loving Savior. After high school the two
attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in Indianapolis where they
grew in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. After Stephen graduated
he spent one year as an intern at the Bible college where he continued
to grow in his understanding that life is all about knowing Jesus,
the power of the Holy Spirit, the grace of God and practical daily
service for the Lord. At the finish of the internship and Vanessa’s
graduation from Bible College the two where married. They continued
to live in Indianapolis; Stephen worked on staff at Horizon Christian
Fellowship, and Vanessa at Starbucks.
During
his time on staff at Horizon Stephen sensed the Lord leading them
on, not sure exactly what that meant, continued to pray and talk
to his pastor concerning this leading from the Lord. The Lord eventually
lead the Pomeroy’s to serve along side friend and mentor Billy
Brandle in Kharkiv, Ukraine. They spent 1 year in Kharkiv before
returning to America to have their first child. During the time
in the States Stephen worked and they prayed about what the Lord
would have for them. After only a few month they sensed the Lord
was telling them to return to Ukraine to serve. On April 1st the
Pomeroy’s landed in Ukraine, and as they where in the way
the Lord led them back to Kharkiv to serve. The founding pastor
of Calvary Chapel Kharkiv and his family made plans to return to
America, and stay. The Lord made it very clear to both Billy and
Stephen that Stephen was to take over for Billy. The congregation
was going through the gospel of Luke at the time of the transition,
Stephen picked up where Billy left off in Luke and continued to
teach through the Bible.
Stephen’s
heart and vision for ministry is to simply teach the Word of God
simply, his goal and hearts desire is to be able to say like Paul,
“I have not shunned to declare unto you the whole counsel
of God.” Through the teaching and sharing of the Word of grace
(Acts 20:32) the ministry in Kharkiv is one of building up, edifying
and people growing in the grace and knowledge of their savior. Kharkiv
has a population of roughly 2 million people and almost a quart
of the population is made up of college student, many of which are
from all around the world. The prayer for this church is that the
people would walk in the constant awareness of God’s presence
in their lives and that they would be filled with the knowledge
of His love for them.
